Panasonic Begins Production of 50GB Blu-Ray Discs

Everyone’s going gaga over the Maxell 1.6-terabyte holographic disc. But don’t hold your breath for it, it’s still too early. Panasonic has modified its pilot production line and will begin producing dual-layer Blu-ray discs, also known as BD-ROM. Each of these dual-layer disc can hold up to 50GB of data, much more than the 8.5GB on our current DVD. Until holographic discs are a reality, Blu-ray discs will be the likely successor to DVD.
